FERIENHAUS NUFENEN

History

After a long stay abroad in the Middle East, Peter and Marietta Fischer-Nowak wanted a house in the Grisons Alps as a balance. They were looking for a quiet place where they could go on mountain and ski tours, but where their enthusiasm for culture was not neglected. They found a suitable plot of land at the upper edge of the farming village of Nufenen. The Valais architect Robert Zufferey designed an open, practical house inspired by the local Walser architecture.

After moving in in 1974, the vacation home developed into a meeting place where not only 5 generations of the Fischer family, but also guests from all over the world found relaxation, stimulation and conviviality. Often they cooked here passionately and ate well. The excellent Nufener cheese was a frequent ingredient.

On the occasion of an artist's week in the house, Peter Fischer discovered woodcut as a complement to his watercolor art. His cycle about the origin and uppermost section of the Hinterrhein was exhibited in the museum of local history in Splügen. (see also film below)

Still in old age Peter and Marietta made small hikes or cultural excursions to Ticino from Nufenen. We owe the pictures of friendly artists in the house to the art enthusiasm of our parents, the books to their broad interest in local topics.
